EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM--AGES 3-5
Our Early Childhood Program is comprised of 4 different dance subjects--ballet, tap, tumbling & jazz. Each class is 30 minutes long with classes available on Thursday afternoons or Saturday mornings. Each class is a combination of free movement as well as structured class time. Basic motor skills are improved upon and balance, coordination, rhythm, and flexibility are developed.
ELEMENTARY PROGRAM--AGES 6-9
Our Elementary program is comprised of ballet, tap, jazz, or hip hop. It expands upon the above ECP program. All classes are available on Saturday. Classes build upon basic motor skills, combined with space, tempo, and levels to continue to develop grace, coordination, rhthym, flexibility, and strength. Classes for those who are more advanced (and receive a recommendation) in the technical subjects are offered on Thursday evenings.
INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM--AGES 9-12
Our intermediate program is comprised of the same classes as above. We continue to work with space, tempo, coordination skills and technique at a more advance level.
SENIOR PROGRAM--AGES 13 & UP
Our senior program is comprised of the same classes as the intermediate program as well as adding pointe and modern. Pointe is recommended for only the more advanced dancer. There is a possibility of modern dance and/or musical theater being added after winter break.
DANCE TEAM
Our dance team auditions are held every spring. Rehearsals start in the summer and are held on Monday evenings. Our dance team competes and performs at many different local competitions and events.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JAZZ AND HIP HOP?
The jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway type shows such as "Cats" and "Movin' Out". It is a more structured, technical class where dancers learn to kick, jump, leap, and turn.
Hip hop is a fast, high-energy type of dance seen in music videos and commercials. Dance moves seen in shows such as Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Destiny's Child would be typical examples of hip hop.
WHY IS HIP HOP NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL A CHILD IS SIX YEARS OLD?
Hip hop is a dance form that requires higher levels of coordination, strength, and balance. As a general rule, dancers must be able to perform at this level. Most children's bodies are not completely developed enough to actually perform hip hop skills to their fullest. Remember, just because a child can bounce to the beat of the music, it does not mean they are ready to participate in a classroom setting performing skills where strength, coordination, and balance are a must. WHAT IS MUSICAL THEATER? A type of theatrical production that combines music, song, spoken dialogue, and dance to convey a story. Musical-theater influences include opera, operetta, vaudeville, jazz, and popular song.
